Waste Tyres & Batteries
In our Service Departments, some waste products require special handling. Items such as tyres and batteries are carefully collected and disposed of, or recycled, in the most environmentally responsible way possible.
Tyres
At Wayne Phillis Automotive, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. That’s why every old tyre we remove is disposed of correctly when you purchase new tyres from us.
Batteries
Old car batteries are collected from all Wayne Phillis Automotive locations. The lead and other recyclable materials inside are recovered and repurposed through approved processes, ensuring safe handling and reducing environmental impact.
Oil Collection, Treatment & Recovery
At Wayne Phillis Automotive, we take the safe handling of waste oil and coolants seriously. Every year, our workshops use thousands of litres of oil and lubricants to keep our customers’ vehicles running reliably. A natural by-product of this is waste oil – and the way we manage it is just as important as how we deliver and store fresh oil.
All of our sites are equipped with systems to capture used oil, coolants and oil filters directly from the workshop bays. These are transferred into holding tanks before being collected regularly by JJ’s Waste & Recycling, an accredited environmental waste company. Even the metal containers from used filters are recycled and turned into new steel products.
Our Partnership with JJ’s Waste
JJ’s Waste & Recycling provides a Total Waste Management Service for our dealerships, covering:
Used oil collection and true oil recycling (not just burning for energy)
Safe disposal and treatment of oily rags, filters, coolants and hydrocarbon waste
Lockable collection vessels for security and safety
Parts washers and allied workshop waste services
Through major investments in technology such as the G-Force oil recovery system in Queensland, JJ’s Waste maximises the recovery and reuse of oil, sludge and wastewater, preventing harmful materials from entering waterways, landfills or sewer systems.
Used Oil Re-Refineries
JJ’s Waste partners with Southern Oil Refining to operate world-class re-refineries in Gladstone (QLD) and Wagga Wagga (NSW), with a combined capacity to re-refine over 130 million litres of waste oil per year.
This process removes contaminants and worn additives from used oil, producing high-quality base oil that is reused in the manufacture of new lubricating oils. Impressively, around 98% of the carbon from the original oil is preserved — making this one of the most environmentally sustainable ways to recycle a non-renewable resource.
With aggregation facilities across Australia, including right here in Adelaide, JJ’s Waste ensures that waste oil is collected, treated, and re-refined responsibly.
